This month's Beautiful People is a special edition for Valentine's Day, and all about Ben Parker and Emma Bennett.

In case you missed earlier posts, Beautiful People is a monthly blog linkup hosted by Paperfury and Further Up and Further In. Look for monthly updates on characters from The Afterworld Saga, or on writing topics and challenges author's face.

How did they first meet?
Emma Bennett first set eyes on her Prince Charming, Ben Parker, when she stood in line to rent a jet ski at her aunt's resort on Lake Bell. He busted her checking him out several times as she waited her turn. But it wasn't until soccer practice that Emma actually met Ben and learned his name.

Ben, on the other hand, knew who Emma was long before she moved to Westport, Wisconsin. After all, Ben was an agent for the Afterworld's Bureau of Investigation. Not only did he know Emma, but he loved her.

This month, Beautiful People is doing a tribute to the NaNoWriMo event in November. This will be my first attempt to write a book in a month, but I'm incredibly excited to try! To help me prepare, here's a sneak peek at book three in the Afterworld Saga.

How did you come up with the idea for your novel, and how long have you had the idea?
The initial idea for the character of Ben Parker came to me in a dream. It was a very vivid train derailment. Ben and his female partner, Molly, were passengers that were unaffected by the accident. Train cars tumbled down a ravine and once settled, Ben and Molly helped the victims out of the wreckage. They were then escorted to guides to take them to heaven.

This month's Beautiful People interview is with Lucas Crandon, from from my novel, Aftermath.

After Emma Bennett relocates to Westport, Wisconsin, she befriends Lucas--the local bad boy. Lucas' wild reputation for partying and girls got him into trouble more than once. Most recently, he was arrested for drug possession.

Being the son of a police detective, Lucas moved in with his mom and stepdad, til things smoothed over. Let's see what he has to say today...

In case you missed my earlier posts, Beautiful People is a monthly blog linkup hosted by Paperfury and Further Up and Further In. Look for posts each month on the character from The Afterworld Saga.

If you’re in a crisis, who would you really like to see?
Lucas: Not my dad.

Really? Not your dad... I mean, he’s a cop.
**Lucas shook his head.**
Lucas: I guess it depends on what the crisis is. If I got into an accident, or had car trouble, then okay, maybe I'd call my dad. But my stepdad owns an auto body shop, so Ray would be the best person for that. My dad would rage into me for pretty much anything I did, so I'd skip telling him, unless I had to.

Jenna, Melissa, and Emma at Lake Bell.
I’m so excited for this month’s Beautiful People… it’s all about friendship. In case you didn’t know, August 2nd was National Friendship day (I didn’t know that until recently, either. But it was founded in 1919 by Hallmark—go figure!).

So in honor of our BFFs, I’d like to introduce you to Emma’s bestie, Melissa Ryan, from my novel, Aftermath.

In case you missed my earlier posts, Beautiful People is a monthly blog linkup hosted by Paperfury and Further Up and Further In. Look for posts each month on the character from The Afterworld Saga.

Emma, how long have you and Melissa known each other, and how close are you?
Emma: I’ve known Melissa since the third grade when she moved in across the street from me on Cavell. We became best friends immediately. She was the youngest in her family, the only girl, and I was an only child. We were like sisters. We shared everything—well, except boyfriends.
**Emma turned to Melissa and hugged her.**

Beautiful People, hosted by Paperfury and Further Up and Further In, is a blog meme. Each month, a fresh set of questions are posted for authors to interview their characters. It's a great way for readers to get a glimpse into the lives of these fictional character.

This month, I’m interviewing Ben Parker from Aftermath.

As a decorated agent for the Afterworld’s Bureau of Investigation, Ben searched the earth for decades looking for his soul mate, Emma Bennett. When he found her, he decided to go undercover as a high school student to meet her. Let’s see what he has to say today--on this lazy summer edition of Beautiful People!

Ben, what is your favorite ice cream flavor?
Vanilla

Just vanilla?
** He nods. **
Technically, I like an old-fashioned vanilla bean ice cream. Rich and creamy, like they served when I was a kid, back in the 1920's.

You’re getting ready for a night out. Where are you going, and what are you wearing? Who will you be with?
That depends if I’m undercover on earth, or back in my world. On earth, I hope Emma would be by my side. In our past life, we used to go to the movies. Frankenstein was playing on our first date.

If I was back in the Afterworld, I’d probably be with my partner, Molly, or my handler, Pete Jorgenson. There’s a pub we hang out at, when I’m there--but my job has kept me on earth for extended periods of time.

Hosted by Paperfury and Further Up and Further In, this blog linkup helps authors get to know their characters, and gives readers get an insight on the characters they love. It's a monthly prompt and I'm excited to participate as a newbie to the group this month!

My post today is an interview with Emma Bennett, a seventeen-year old high school senior, in my novel, Aftermath. Emma's only worries are completing college applications and convincing her father to let her go on the senior trip to Lake Bell. Then, suddenly everything changes and Emma finds herself relocating to Westport, Wisconsin to live with her aunt. Let's see what she has to say today.

Do you know both of your biological parents? Why/why not?
Well... I did. My mother passed away after battling cancer for years. I was twelve.
My dad was killed in an accident on his way to work. So I moved to Westport, Wisconsin, to live with my aunt my senior year of high school.

Have you inherited any physical resemblances from your parents?
Great question! My Aunt Barb claims I look just like my mom. But I don't see it. Of course, I was twelve, when my mother passed away.

Do you get nightmares? If so, why or what of?
Yes, I dream a lot! Mostly I see strange things in my dreams—things I can’t explain. A man wearing an overcoat and fedora visits me often. I’m trying to figure out who he is and why he looks so familiar.

What is your biggest guilty pleasure/secret shame?
Hmmm… that’s a good one. Before my dad died, I was pretty straight-laced. I wouldn't drink, or hang out with the wrong crowd in high school. But after he died, things changed. I can’t say that I’m proud of everything I did, but I never hurt anyone.
